I am currently working on my graduation assignment for my bachelor study.
For my assignment I will write a research paper about what motivates people to play MMORPGs and what motivates them to be involved in the online/offline communities around those games. For my assignment I will focus on the game Guild Wars.

For my research I want to know about all the different reasons for why people play Guild Wars.

Is it because you have friends there? Real life friends or online friends? You want to meet new people?

You like to escape into a fantasy world? You want to be someone you are not?

You are stressed from work/school and want to de-stress when you come home?

You want to achieve titles? You like to follow the storyline?

So many reasons to play Guild Wars, but what motivates you?

What motivates people to do any activity is absolutely the same. Its conditioning in the subconscious mind. Ideas fixated upon the subconscious mind are called paradigms. In terms of video games, the conditioning is very likely caused by environment...and its highly unlikely people know what actually caused the conditioning (They were probably in a deductive state when much of the conditioning took place). The only option you actually have in your first post that could easily be sourced to causing one to choose Guild Wars (While in an inductive state) is the friends option. The other options depend most likely on deductive states, which is an unconscious process of developing new paradigms.

I hope you do well on your essay anyways.
